Unknown to many Nagar Valley lies right accross Hunza Valley and seems like terrace farming villages. However, Nagar Valley has many amazing tourist spots that you must explore. It is is one of the District of Gilgit Baltistan and its Capital is Nagar Khas. Not only is it a vast valley, also has few of the heighest peaks of Karakoram including the most famous Rakaposhi, Spantik (Golden Peak), Diran, Mulabiting, Mair Peaks, and many others. Most famous glacier of Nagar is Hisper Glacier, which is one of the longest glaciers and together with Biafo makes the longest glacial system outside polar region.
Apart from these amazing peaks and glaciers, Nagar valley is worth seeing for its beautiful lush green valleys, its towns and villages, and hidden glacial lakes. Nagar is well known among adventurers and avid trekkers. Nagar offers amazing sights of the Karakoram mountains and valleys. Here are few of the popular locations in Nagar.
Hispar Glacier – Nagar Valley
Hispar Glacier is 49 km long. it meets Biafo Glacier (Baltistan region through a pass known as Hispar -La (5,128m). Hisper lake trek goes to Snow Lake which is a frozen glacial lake. People start the trek in Baltistan from Biafo Glacier and end it in Nagar Valley at Hsiper Glacier.
Rush Lake – 4694 m
One of the heighest Alpine lakes is in Nagar and can be reached by trekking over the Hoper Glacier in Hoper Valley, Nagar. It is 3 to 4 day trek to Rush Lake. The Lake offers amazing spectacle of the surrounding moutains including Miar Peak, Spantik (Golden Peak), Laila Peak, Ultar Sar, Phuparash Peak, Malubating Peak system and Khunyang Chhish. Rush Pari peak locate along side the lake is 5,098 m and its summit is easy to acess. From Rush Pari Peak the Hipar La and K2 can be seen on a clear day.
Hopar Glacier (Bualtar Glacier)
Hoper Glacier is a must see spot in Nagar located in Hoper Valley. The Glacier is huge and will provide you an opportunity to see and stand on the mighty glacier. It is easily accessible and doesn’t require trekking to reach it. There are two more glaciers in the valley, Barpo Glacier and Mier Glacier which will require some trekking.
Rakaposhi Base Camp Trek – 7788m
Rakaposhi is 27th heighest mountain in the world and is well known amaong travllers. The peak is prominent and forefront in both Hunza and Nagar valley. The base camp trek is one of the easy treks that starts from Minapin valley. It goes toward Hapakun Meadows which is a lush green pasture land of the locals. Once you cross it you will reach the Rakaposhi Basecamp. It is a 2 to 3 days trek.
The basecamp further goes towards Diran Base Camp.
Diran Base Camp Trek – 7266 m
Diran Peak is one of the hardest peaks to summit. The Diran Base Camp however is easy to reach. It lies in Minapin Valley , Nagar. The Trek to Rakaposhi Basecamp starting from Minapin to Hapakun goes further to reach Diran Basecamp. You will cross the Minapin Glacier (Not recommended without a guide) and reach Diran Base Camp.Kachtelly lake is a glacial lake located near Diran Base camp. A steep hill will take you to the frozen glacial lake.
Hapakun Valley – Minapin Nagar Valley
Hapakun Valley is a beautiful Meadow surrounded by snowy mountains and glacier. It is almost like Fairy Meadows but only few locals with their cattles. Small streams from Glaciers provide water to the valley and is a serene and quite place.
