1. MAGALLA HILL
North of Islamabad is the Margalla Hills which is declared and protected under National Park. The vast hills add to the beauty of the city and are one of the main attraction in the city. The hills have many tracks that take you on the top.
2. DAMAN-E-KOH
On the hill, a central stop is Daman-e Koh which translate into ‘Foot of the Hill’. People drive up or hike up the trail to Daman-e Koh for a Panoramic view of Islamabad city. It is located in the centre of the Margalla Hills. A higher viewpoint is at the top of the hill called Pir Sohawa it is located in Monal Village. People come up to enjoy the city view and have dinner or lunch.
3. FAISAL MOSQUE
Located in the foothills of Margalla hills is the Turkish inspired Mosque. The Mosque lacks the typical dome design and is based on Bedouin-style tent. Saudi King Faisal provided the grant for its construction and was named after him. It is one of the favourite places to visit amongst travellers. The design and architecture are very modern and refreshing. It is a must-visit in Islamabad.
4. PAKISTAN MONUMENT MUSEUM
Located in the Shakarparian region, Islamabad Monument is in a beautiful location in Islamabad. The monument was constructed as a symbol of unity among the whole of Pakistan. The museum along with the monument reflects the history of Pakistan. It is a must-stop for most people visiting the city.
5. RAWAL LAKE
Rawal Lake is an artificial reservoir in Islamabad. Many people visit the lake during the summers. Built along the lake is Lake View Park which is always crowded as people from both cities (Islamabad and Rawalpindi) come here for picnics and day trips. Opposite of the park is the Bani Gala region where few river view restaurants are present.
6. LOK VIRSA
Lok Virsa museum showcases Pakistan’s history, culture and folk art. The museum is quite big and might take hours to visit. Divided into sections to represent the diverse culture from different province and territories of Pakistan. It hosts event for the promotion of the folk heritage from all across Pakistan. It also features shops where Pakistani artefacts are displayed and sold.
7. SAID PUR VILLAGE
Said-pur is a small village within the capital city. The village is old and has been kept as it is while Islamabad was built. The village as a historic Hindu temple and a Gurdwara. Desi styled restaurants surround the old relics today. People leave the city to get here as it is a change of view.
